FLASHBACK

Zanzinbar Hosts Africa Travel Association 7th Ecotourism Symposium

The name itself evokes immediate images of swashbuckling pirates, creating slave ships, indomitable explorers, buried treasures, flagrant spices and sloe-eyed Arabian princesses. Memories of childhood storybooks and tales of adventure and exploration leap into our minds at the mere mention of the place. Yet no fiction or mere legends are these, for when you visit Zanzibar, the evidence is all around.

The Islands of Zanzibar with their spice-laden plantations, equatorial forests and sun drenched beaches, are a paradise of sights, sounds, and romance that cries out for the poet's pen. History is written here &endash; carved in stone and stained with blood. Silken slippers once walked these grassy swards and perfumed sherberts dropped from bejeweled fingers into the hungry soil. Zanzibar is where the museums themselves are the exhibits, and fishing boats sail right out of the history books.

Gone is the glory by the memory remains

Zanzibar is a land of extremes. It is where visitors can experience traditional music & dance, water sports, clear azure seas, cordon bleu seafood, abundant marine life, modern discotheques, ancient history, incredible coral reefs and rare terrestrial wildlife.

The friendly locals are very pleased to share their history and heritage with you and to escort you on tours around the islands. Visits to ancient ruins and buildings, trips to spice plantations and lazy on the spectacular beaches bordering the azure Indian Ocean all add to the magic that is Zanzibar.

There are many interesting reefs around the islands of Zanzibar, featuring shallow rocky areas that suddenly drop off into vertiginous crevasses, 40m deep. With steep walls covered in colorful sponges, one may find such diverse life as Langoustines and Moray Eels. Some reefs are like undersea mountains, wreathed with seaweeds and corals, and teeming with colorful fish. Moray eels writhe in dark canyons between the Precious Red Corals and Sea Horses hover on shimmering light above tall pinnacles. One may be lucky enough to have close encounters with large of Sharks, Manta Rays and curious Dolphins.
